A great cluster of granite boulders around summit lake.
Directions
From Truckee, CA head west on I-80 out of Truckee, and
4-Wheel Directions
Exit I-80 at Donner Lake Road and as the exit ramp swings south towards the switchbacks down to Donner Lake take a right on to a paved road that quickly turns to dirt at a trailhead. Take the dirt road past the trail head and at .1 miles stay right, .5 miles stay left, .8 miles stay left, .9 miles stay left, 1.0 miles stay right, 2 miles stay left, 2.1 go right and follow the road to the lake.
Hiking Directions
I've never hiked in, but I hear you keep going past the Donner Lake exit and park at the vista point.
Approach: 5 minutes if you drive in. I've never hiked in.
Ambiance: *** Boulders around a mountain lake, how perfect is that.
Parking: Three of four spot around the lake and your gonna want a narrow 4-wheel drive to get up here.
Kids/Dogs: There are a lot of people that use the lake as all mountain lakes and if you have a dog like me that's fond of eating people poop you may want to watch out, but other then that its pretty awesome. Not a lot of bouldering for kids.
Shade: Abundant
Rock Type: Granite-Good
Notes: A fair amount of big boulder here, though their is plenty at moderate height too.
